AK Ristoro, Ella, from above at blue hour — tiled roofs, lit wagon wheels and garden lights under a stormy sky

Two cultures, one kitchen.

The story of AK Ristoro, Ella.

More than ten years and 2,352 TripAdvisor reviews later, it is still their restaurant, run their way.

Three kitchens, one standard

The pasta came first, and guests have written about it since our first year. The Japanese dishes are Akane’s own recipes: katsu curry, katsudon, karaage and rolls.

Different kitchens, one rule: cook every dish to order, and cook it properly.

A pizza at the edge of the glowing wood-fired oven at AK Ristoro, Ella — green tiles around the arch
Katsudon at AK Ristoro, Ella — a panko cutlet simmered with egg and spring onion in a black bowl, a black spoon beside it
Sri Lankan croquettes at AK Ristoro, Ella — four golden crumbed croquettes on a dark oval plate

The room

Brick walls, dark wood and candlelight inside. A terrace outside, with blankets for cool hill-country nights. We like a restaurant where people can still hear each other.

A brick-walled booth at AK Ristoro, Ella — an elephant painting and a woven lantern above a table for six

The people

When you leave, you’ll probably hear the whole team say goodnight. That has been a habit since the beginning.
